We ground out a result when we needed to. A depleted eleven and replacements not up to the required standards. Still after this break we should have Reid back and Kouyate restored to midfield. This coupled with Enner being available should make us more competitive.
What was entertaining was getting home and watching the rugby recording of England's valiant attempt to put 26 points on France.

Well to be fair we've got to get plenty of practice in so we can make sure we're really good at it and make best use of the 5 games carroll will be fit for next season

I watched his post match comments on BBC Sport, to see what he said - he didn't come across like he was trying to claim the moral high ground to me, more like he was saying they were put under pressure. Not sure if he meant crosses, long balls, long passes, penalty box entries, who knows? I thought for a large part of the second half, all we did was sweep the ball out to Downing on the left, I didn't notice us humping it a lot?
It was a poxy game though.

Maybe he should concentrate on his own dismal team and get something out of them.
I have a soft spot for Burnley and hope they can do enough to drop Sunderland in with QPR & Leicester.
I am a bit surprised how little (if any) stick he has been given for selecting a player on bail for sex abuse charges with a minor.

I see that we are trying these quick forward defence splitting passes but of late they have rarely come off, and on the odd occasion that they have the players who received the ball couldn't move on fast enough or were isolated on there on and either lacked the confidence to go on their own or the ability.

I don't care if we play long ball, short ball or mid range ball. What matters is if it is the right ball and recently we haven't seen many of them.
Calling poor football 'long ball' is a diversion from the real problem. I love seeing a long ball when it has a purpose and finds a man in space or cute open a defence etc. our problem is we don't play that type of long ball very often, in fact I struggle to think of many defence splitting passes we have played in ages. Song to Downing was the last I remember.

It's nothing to do with long ball. short ball, whatever fucking ball, it's about playing well and we haven't done that for a long time.
Fwiw, we didn't play long ball anyway, we did what we always do which is to get two thirds of the way down the pitch, down either side, then lob the ball in. It's only worth playing long ball if Carroll is playing.

I wish these managers wouldn't keep coming out with this shit. They're rights of course, but it just means a load of West Ham fans get so precious and defensive that it deflects from the truth. We are a terrible team to watch, playing the worst football ever seen at the club.
